In my early 20's my family's home was foreclosed on. We had to walk away. This was during a period of very high interest rates, when balloon mortgages were common — interest-only payments for years, until the full principal suddenly came due all at once. We couldn't make that payment. The bank took our home.
That experience shaped how I practice real estate today. As part of my commitment to being the best broker I can be, I became certified in Short Sales and Foreclosures through the National Association of Realtors, and I've helped many clients navigate this exact transition since.
